Lagg Single Malt Small Batch: Côte-Rôtie

The Lagg Côte-Rôtie is a distinctive and rare Lagg Small Batch, available exclusively here and at Lagg Distillery.

It is fully matured in ex–Côte-Rôtie wine casks filled on 7 April 2022. Sourced from the steep granite terraces of the Northern Rhône, these casks previously held Syrah-based wines, often co-fermented with a touch of Viognier, known for adding aromatic lift and texture.

Ex–Côte-Rôtie casks are exceptionally scarce due to the region’s small scale and the common practice of reusing high-quality French oak barrels. Their fine grain and wine influence offer a markedly different profile from more typical wine casks. These casks bring savoury depth and structure, with notes of dark berries, bramble, clove, graphite, and a gentle tannic grip. This complements Lagg’s heavily peated spirit, where bonfire smoke, maritime salinity, and charred earth meet Syrah’s savoury, peppery character.

The result is a balanced interplay of sweet smoke, dark fruit, and subtle spice, with the oak providing structure and refinement. A limited edition release showcasing Lagg’s peated style in a more elegant, complex, and gastronomic light.
